A book reproducing the personal book of hours of Gian Galeazzo Visconti, Duke of Milan, in the late 14th century. Along with full color plates of each hand illuminated manuscript, the book has expert level commentary to provide the context of each image. Produced during the high Middle Ages, at the dawn of the Renaissance, the book was crafted with fine mineral based paints like lapis lazuli for blue on a vellum (animal skin) manuscript leaf in the Gothic style predominant during medieval times. Books of Hours are Christian prayer books used to pray the canonical hours, fixed divisions in a day where different prayers are made. 

This book has 128 color plates/illustrations in total.

Condition: The book is in very good condition. Binding is very nice, a few spots but overall good. Pages are excellent, no major issues. May come with slipcase, in fair to very good condition. The photos are representative of the edition and might have slight differences from what is sent based on inventory, though good condition or better is guaranteed.
